According to an article by Michael McWhertor via Polygon on September 2nd, 2014, "Quantic Dream's PlayStation 3 adventure game Beyond: Two Souls might be the latest game making a generational leap. Trophies for a PlayStation 4 version of the game have recently appeared on achievement-tracking web site Exophase.

Sony Computer Entertainment hasn't announced a PS4 port of Beyond: Two Souls, but Exophase says it pulls its trophy data from Sony's PlayStation Network. The PS4 trophy listing is separate from the existing PS3 version of the game.

Quantic Dream confirmed last year that it was developing an unnamed PS4 title, but indicated at the time that its next-generation game was something new. "Innovation is part of our DNA," Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière said. "We've never duplicated ourselves. We never clone ourselves or other people's projects; we always try to create unique experiences."

Paul Tassi's article from October 9th, 2013 states...

My wife’s usual after-work routine is to come home, get changed, and unwind with a DVR-ed episode of Scandal, New Girl or The Vampire Diaries. Yesterday, she came home, turned on my PlayStation 3, and proceeded to play Beyond: Two Souls for the next four and a half hours.

My wife is not a gamer. Despite the fact that she’d say otherwise, the last games she played with any regularity were the original Doom and Crash Bandicoot back when she was in grade school. So while spousal gaming might be normal in some marriages, it isn’t in mine, and it’s truly amazing how Beyond: Two Souls has managed to capture my wife’s interest.

The game is divisive, that much is clear from the reviews. It’s rare to see a game get both nines and perfect tens, and also fours, fives and sixes from major outlets. I’m sure you’ve already metacriticed the full range for yourself. I personally gave it a nine in my own review, though I can’t really judge those who s…

It's been four years since Quantic Dream released Heavy Rain, the PS3 exclusive action/adventure game that blurred the lines between game, movie, and interactive story. Naturally, it rubbed some gamers the wrong way with its linear nature and QTE centric controls, but it received a generally positive reception. Beyond: Two Souls continues that tradition, though with a larger budget, and while utilizing the acting talents of Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe. Will it eclipse its predecessor?

Check out the critical response below and let us know your thoughts in the comments section!

The article by Matt Liebl from October 4th, 2013 is accompanied by a video interview with Quantic Dream's co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere.

Both have a heavy cinematic approach to emotionally-driven narrative; both have fairly simplistic control schemes; and both feature cutting-edge performance capturing and deep character development. But despite their core similarities, Beyond: Two Souls is not merely a clone of Heavy Rain.

Robert Kjoder's article from October 1st, 2013 reviews the new B:TS demo opening with:

Similar to his previous games Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy, Beyond is the furthest thing from a conventional video game you can possibly play, to the point where people bicker left and right as to whether the studio is even creating games. Instead of shooting the same generic enemies or partaking in some other conventional method of gameplay, Quantic Dream primarily has you interacting with context sensitive button presses and dialogue mechanics, both of which bend the story in different directions from player to player.

With an introduction by Ben Hanson from September 26th, 2013 on the Game Informer site.

In between their games, Quantic Dream has made a habit of releasing ambitious tech demo videos. Starting with The Casting back in 2006, and continuing with Project Kara and The Dark Sorcerer at E3 2013, Quantic Dream uses these smaller projects to test out new equipment and flex their creative muscle.

    Production Budget for B:TS

September 25, 2013 by Evil Asch

According to an article on PlayStationLifeStyle.net by Jason Dunning

...the game had a production budget of €20 million ($27 million US).

If this is correct, it would be slightly behind the €22 million that Heavy Rain cost to produce, but when marketing and distribution was added to the cost of Heavy Rain, it reached €40 million. After spending all that, it ended up making €100 million, sold over 3 million copies, and had 3% of people reach the Platinum.

by Venture Beat located here outlines in brief the footage in the new demo released at the festival. The slightly spoilery article goes on to state:

When the gameplay footage ended on a cliffhanger, you could feel the audience’s anticipation to learn what happens next. That’d be a decent accomplishment for a  film, but for a game that’s actually meant to be played, it was astounding how much Beyond was able to rope us in simply based on watching it.

Has David Cage finally reached his goal of a game with the emotional impact and story quality of a film?

Per an article hosted on IGN by Andew Goldfarb from March, 1st 2013:

In addition to the release date announcement the article confirms that renowned actor Willem Dafoe will be involved in B:TS as Nathan Dawkins, a major character. Game Informer, EU PlayStation Blog, and The Escapist also confirm Dafoe's participation.

This is an interesting update as several articles from July 2012 by VG24/7, PlayStation Universe, Game Trailers.com, and PlayStation Lifestyle.net confirmed Dafoe would not be a participant.

"...it will be “quite different” from Heavy Rain , with no QTEs [a series of simon says style reactions required to be properly executed by the player in order to complete an event, usually resulting in a cut scene or other restricted but polished visual] appearing in the game, opting for new gameplay mechanics instead that will “play more in line with what gamers expect” from a modern action-adventure title."

Playstation Blog B:TS David Cage Talks Quantic's Supernatural Epic

Development is going very well. Indeed, it’s nice to go to all these shows but we also have to make the game! We’re advancing – we’re now a few weeks off the alpha version. It’s always a very critical moment in the development of a game since it’s the first time all the game data is assembled in a complete version. This first version is often not very playable, but it’s the first time you can see the “complete” game as a whole. After that we’ll move onto the beta version, which is when the game really starts to look like the final version. Full article via the link above.
