Entities are paranormal creatures from the Infraworld that appear in Beyond: Two Souls. Gifted with exceptional powers, they appear to be predominately extremely dangerous and are seen to attack and kill the living. According to Cole Freeman, there are several types of entities, and potentially different species.

Notable entities[]

Aiden[]

An entity which has watched over Jodie since she was born. He was the stillborn twin of Jodie. Aiden is very protective of Jodie, killing those that threaten her and coming to her aid when she cannot find her way out of a dangerous situation. Apart from showing hostility towards those that endanger Jodie, he is also very distrustful of Ryan when he and Jodie begin to get closer, showing anger and jealousy towards him as he sees him as a possible threat to Jodie. Aiden is very powerful, being able to possess human beings and use them to aid Jodie when she needs it. He can also strangle humans to death and destroy physical obstacles impeding Jodie's progress.

Although most of Aiden's powers are offensive, he has a few defensive powers as well. He can heal Jodie and anyone else that she tells him to heal. He can also produce a force field which can protect Jodie against physical damage (like heavy impacts or bullets) as well as against entities in some cases (Yé'iitsoh).

Smoke Entities[]

These are the most common type of Entity in the game. They are formless and appear as black smoke, save for two reddish spots similar to eyes, and they may occasionally sprout something like a mouth with sharp teeth. These entities have been known to be invisible at times and only seen by Aiden and possibly Jodie, whom they targeted from an early age due to her connections to the Infraworld. She often referred to them as "monsters."

After Aiden used his powers to fend off an especially violent attack by Smoke Entities that occurred on Jodie's first night at the DPA campus, Jodie told Nathan that Aiden was no longer scared of them as she had been. When Jodie was about 16, another facility on the DPA campus that housed an experimental condenser was activated and mistakenly allowed dozens of the Smoke Entities through, forcing Jodie and Aiden to shut the condenser down. Despite her warnings against building further condensers, both the USA and Kazirstan built new facilities to study the Entities.

An attempt by Aiden to rescue Jodie and Ryan from the Dragon Facility caused a breach which allowed entities to enter the facility and kill the workers there. The Black Sun Facility experienced a massive breach when a deranged Nathan Dawkins reasoned that merging the real world and the Infraworld together would prevent death from occurring. This allowed a large number of Smoke Entities to breach the CIA Facility until it could be sealed.

Housed Corpses - Things[]

Yé'iitsoh[]

Yeiitsoh

Yé'iitsoh being sucked into the Infraworld

An evil spirit summoned into the living world by a tribe of Navajo a few centuries ago. The Navajo had their village burned down and many of their people killed by American soldiers, and summoned Yé'iitsoh in order to get revenge. This plan backfired, because once summoned, Yé'iitsoh killed the soldiers and the Navajo indiscriminately. Even though these events transpired long ago, this spirit still returns to the land of the Navajo, bringing trouble for Paul and his family.

He usually attacks during the night, and the spirits of the Navajo that summoned him try to ward him off each night to protect their descendants. However, he somehow manages to materialize during the day, severely wounding Paul in the process. He is ultimately returned to the Infraworld through a ritual that Jodie and Shimasani perform with help from Jay, Cory, and Aiden. If Aiden doesn't help the Navajo spirits drive Yé'iitsoh back into the rift, he escapes. If Paul is not healed by Aiden prior to performing the ritual, he will succumb to his injuries and die. Shimasani will die regardless.

Sea Entity[]

The Sea Entity is a humongous entity created by a condenser under the sea by the Kazirstani military. It resembles a fish, sea serpent, or lizard and is mainly black with blue stripes. It has enough power to destroy the whole underwater condenser. In the end, the entity died in the explosion it caused.

Black Sun Entity[]

In the mythology, at archaeological scenes, the Plumed Serpent shows a man with a black sun within a yellow sun. In this manner the spinning of the sun and black sun shows a wheel crossing with an obfuscatory motion where four black rays move out of four yellow rays. The occult symbol refers to the structure and design of the Black Sun in the game, which features yellow and black spirals.

Out of the middle of the Black Sun are black ghost-like entities with two red eyes and some lost souls. The entities are hostile toward humans and circulate around the Black Sun's boundary.

Powers and Abilities[]

Due to their nature, entities possess a myriad of supernatural abilities. Many of these are common to most entities, but some have abilities unique to them.

For a full list of Aiden's abilities, see Aiden#Powers and Abilities.

Cold Presence: When an entity is nearby, humans sometimes shiver and/or exhale a cold mist.

Electronic Disruption: Entities can affect nearby electronics with their presence, glitching computer and television screens or causing lights to flicker.

Fang and Claw Manifestation: Some entities, such as the smoke entities and Yé'iitsoh, can sprout sharp teeth and claws capable of inflicting physical damage on their targets.

Formlessness: The smoke entities consistently appear as formless clouds of black smoke, and Yé'iitsoh is able to make itself appear as a colossal sandstorm. More benevolent entities, such as Aiden or the unknown entity seen in the cave drawings in "Navajo," are depicted as floating masses of energy with glowing eyes, but lack other defining features. The spirits in the Beyond appear as humanoid forms composed of particles of energy; Jodie sees Aiden in this form briefly in "Homeless." If Jodie enters the Beyond, she describes herself as incorporeal and having the ability to "dissolve into nothing or become whole again" at will.

Intangibility: Entities can travel through any solid surface regardless of its density, material or thickness. However, they are vulnerable to containment fields, as seen in "Dragon's Hideout."

Possession: Entities can take over the minds of nearby humans, allowing them to more directly interact with the physical world. Possessed individuals usually have rolled-back eyes. Whenever Aiden possesses a human, they are incapable of speech, but a scientist in "The Condenser" is able to speak while possessed by a smoke entity. Some entities can also temporarily reanimate and inhabit the bodies of the deceased.

Physical Augmentation: The possessed scientist in "The Condenser" exhibits greater physical strength and durability than a normal human. If Jodie fails a QTE while attacking him with a metal pipe, he is able to throw her into a wall with one hand. He also survives being impaled through the throat with the same pipe (even using it as a weapon against her) and is only mildly inconvenienced after coming into contact with fire.

Selective Imperceptibility: Entities can make themselves invisible to the living. However, some gifted humans can perceive them.

Soul Link: Some entities can link their soul to that of a living person. In the case of Aiden and Jodie, their tether appears as a purple cord of energy which emanates from the latter. If Jodie enters the Beyond, she shares her memories with Zoey and is able to communicate with her, but is not restrained to her.

Trivia[]

  • Unused dialogue from "Black Sun" states that the entities cannot see the living world, indicating that they may actually sense movement.
